Somehow, these free tacos are supposed to help Jack get better.  Remember, Jack was hit by a bus in a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl.  Personally, I think Jack’s kind of creepy; he reminds me of a radio antenna ball so you can find your car in the shopping mall parking lot.  But, personal feelings aside, free food is always good.

IHOP restaurants are offering free pancakes to customers on National Pancake Day , which is Tuesday, February 24.  Get one free short stack of three pancakes from 7:00am - 10:00pm local time on this date.

In exchange for the free short stack, IHOP asks guests to donate the cost of the breakfast to Children’s Miracle Network or another local charity.  IHOP’s goal is to raise $1,000,000 for Children’s Miracle Network this year.  So far, they have received $35,000 in donations prior to the event.  In 2008, $875,000 was raised for CMN, and 1.5 million pancakes were served. The first IHOP National Pancake Day was in 2006.

Over 1400 IHOP restaurants are participating in National Pancake Day.  There is a limit of one free short stack per guest. Offer is valid only at participating IHOP restaurants while supplies last.

National Pancake Day is celebrated on Fat Tuesday, also known as Shrove Tuesday and Mardi Gras.  It occurs the day before the Catholic season of Lent begins. Lent is a season of fasting.  Pancakes are traditionally served on Fat Tuesday as a way to use up dairy products such as milk, butter and eggs that couldn’t be used during the Lenten season.

Do you Freecycle? If you don’t, you should. It’s a great free resource to get rid of unwanted items without sending them to the landfill. It is also a great place to find items that you are in need of.

If you are not familiar with Freecycle, it is a network of local groups where members post items they want to get rid off, offering them to other members of their group. Members can also post when they are in search of an item, hoping that another member can help them. Basically, it’s a community of people who are giving and receiving things for free in their towns, recycling useable goods and keeping things out of the landfills.

I’ve gotten a few good items off of Freecycle, but mostly I use it to give away things that I can no longer use, but are still good. I’ve met some good people this way too. If you aren’t part of your local Freecycle group, consider joining. It’s well worth it.

In case you missed the commercial that aired during the Super Bowl, Denny’s Restaurants is giving away a free Grand Slam breakfast to everyone in America on Tuesday, February 3.  The free breakfast is available at participating Denny’s from 6:00am - 2:00pm.  The Grand Slam breakfast includes 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 slices of bacon, and 2 sausage links.

In addition, guests who order the free Grand Slam breakfast will receive a coupon book featuring 8 coupons to use for future visits.  Each coupon book contains 4 Buy One, Get One offers, 2 coupons for 25 percent off total bill, a free dessert coupon, and 1 coupon good for a free order of pancake puppies.

Offer is good only at participating Denny’s Restaurants, and while supplies last.  One free breakfast per guest.  Offer is not good on carry-out orders.  All participating Denny’s also have rain checks available for guests who do not want to wait to be served on Tuesday.
